The Wounded Healer

“To become a deeper person is the privilege of those who have suffered.” —Oscar Wilde

Wounded Healers gain through their own adversity and suffering the resources to stay authentic even when vulnerable and afraid, enabling them to become a light to others who feel lost and alone. The concept of the Wounded Healer defines my lifetime passion as a professional counselor. The heightened intuition and empathy of a highly sensitive person (HSP) continue to serve me well.

I carried two secret wounds in the first decades of life: the profound trust violation of childhood sexual abuse, plus a personal orientation that was considered in that era both a mental illness and criminal act. While serving in the Navy, I witnessed the profound cruelty of the Vietnam War. During the tragic AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, I supported my community for twenty years as a professional counselor while grieving my own personal losses.

My own spiritual resources have grown over time, a blend of childhood Christianity, Buddhism, Vedanta, Wicca and Shamanism, along with a deeper understanding of the human condition informed by 40 years of successful counseling practice.

It is my sincere hope that within these pages you may find guidance as you continue your journey on the path to true-self and personal empowerment.

About Greg’s Regular Guided Meditations

Mindfulness meditation is a well-proven tool that can help you stay sane in an increasingly insane world. Every Friday evening at 8pm, Greg Jesser leads a half-hour mindfulness meditation focused on grounding to help you regain your calm center, and to provide an opportunity for you to learn and practice this valuable tool on your own. Each session is followed by 15 minutes of voluntary silent meditation in the virtual company of a sangha of like-minded people.

No matter what, I choose to be where I am, and for you to be where you are, fully present in the Here and Now.

The power behind meditation and mindfulness begins with being present with your breath.

One of my passions is to help you practice this, wherever you may be — and to fulfill this passion, I have built this online resource, and cultivated a safe Friday meditation space online as well. So no matter where you are, you can learn to develop and strengthen your mindful presence when you need it the most.
